This post is of a personal nature. Finding ourselves at a time of life that is referred to as middle aged, many changes have come about. Some by choice, and others...well let's just say, not by choice.
Recently my husband has had to get dentures. The adjustment he has had to make has affected both of us, not just him. I never realized until now that it does a number on the spouse almost as much as the individual. I am putting all of his food in our mini blender to make it into an edible mush of sorts for him, it requires quite a bit of thought to come up with recipes that he can maneuver and that can be put into the little machine.
Kissing of course has come to a stand still, until his mouth is not so sore. But the thing that has affected me the most is what a good sport he has turned out to be. He has a sense of humor that I never appreciated before. For example, tonight when he took out his dentures, he put them into a container with some fizzy stuff that turned an aquatic shade of bluish green. I was watching a movie when he showed me this little container and he said, "hey, would you like to see my fishy?" At first I didn't realize that his dentures were in it, until I looked further and realized the pinkish thing floating inside were his dentures. I looked up at him and busted up laughing.
Then, he comes into the office and says to me, "would you do me a favor?" So I'm waiting for his request and he says, "would you bite my fingernails?" I bust out laughing again. He has turned into a regular stand up comedian, I swear. I never saw this side of him before, at least not quite like this. Growing older together, doesn't seem so hard when the other person can take it all in good stride. So if he can take it, I guess I can take it too.

Time off for visitors
Visitors bring a nice change of pace. This summer I was privileged to have my sister come visit. We did many things and had a blast going to garage sales and estate sales. Don't you just love it when you get there just as the prices have been cut in half and you get the laundry sorter for $6.00 instead of $12.00, which is a savings of about $50.00 off the new one you just saw at the store? Or how about the Dooney & Bourke bag for $10.00 instead of $350.00 or more, new? So fun.
A change of season - Bears time to gorge
We have been having cooler weather in Colorado signaling the bears time to gorge themselves. I recently found out that they eat about 30,000 calories a day this time of year! Can you imagine? That is about the equivalent of feeding fifteen people everyday until hibernation.
It's no wonder they come down from the hills and get into everybody's trash cans.
This photo was taken from my back porch. My loyal dog Blue was ferocious and tried to scare it away. Then my husband went out and between he and Blue the bear ran off.
He was interested in eating the apples off my apple trees in the backyard of sorts. I say that because we have about twenty feet of backyard before the property descends downhill about four hundred feet to the neighbors property. He headed north after being wildly barked and screamed at.
We have had so many incidents of bears this year I thought I would share this with you all. If you live in the rurals, take care to dispose of your trash properly and as for the apple trees, well, I hope they are ready to pick really soon.
